IP65 vs. IP67 vs. IP68: How to Choose the Waterproof Rating for Industrial Touch Monitors?

Jun 05 Source: Intelligent Browse:6

In humid, dusty, or frequently rinsed industrial environments, the waterproof and dustproof rating of touchscreens directly determines equipment lifespan and production line stability. Faced with three common high protection ratings—IP65,IP67,and IP68—how should you choose?

Key Differences: What Can They Protect Against?

All three achieve the highest dustproof rating of 6 (complete dustproof),but the difference lies in their waterproof capabilities:

* IP65: Resistant to jet spray. Withstands 12.5L/min of water spray from a 6.3mm nozzle in any direction, suitable for splash and shower protection. Not suitable for immersion.

* IP67: Resistant to short-term immersion. Can be submerged in 1 meter of room temperature water for 30 minutes without water ingress, suitable for outdoor heavy rain or temporary falls into puddles.

* IP68:Resistant to continuous immersion. Immersion depth and duration are manufacturer-defined (commonly 2 meters/24 hours or 1.5 meters/48 hours),suitable for long-term high humidity, condensation, or deep immersion environments.

Selection Guide

Select IP65: Suitable for general workshops, splash-proof workbenches, and general equipment. High cost-performance ratio, meets daily washing needs, and is the first choice for most indoor industrial scenarios.

Select IP67:Suitable for outdoor unobstructed equipment, food production lines requiring regular foam cleaning, and port machinery. Offers an additional immersion redundancy compared to IP65, but costs approximately 15%-25% more.

Select IP68:Suitable for long-term immersion or high condensation environments such as ship decks, underwater detection equipment, and deep mine pits. Note the manufacturer's specific testing conditions (water depth × duration).

Important Reminder

Higher waterproof ratings are not always better. IP68 offers a tighter seal, which may lead to decreased touch sensitivity, poorer heat dissipation, and maintenance difficulties. Recommendation: Choose a rating sufficient for your needs, with a one-level redundancy reserve—select IP65 for production line washing.
